Of a limited edition of 300 copies, this is number 199 of 200 numbered copies signed by Joe Tilson. The portfolio is additionally inscribed to the poet David Gansz & signed by Joe Tilson on the front endpaper. "This book was drawn and designed by Joe Tilson and published on the occasion of an exhibition at the Arnolfini Gallery, Bristol, in 1984. Printed by Expression Printers Ltd., London. Two etchings by Joe Tilson.This edition, limited to one hundred fifty copies and signed by the author and the artist, was printed on an 1847 Washington handpress by Gabriel Rummonds and Alessandro Zanella at the Plain Wrapper Press in Verona, Italy. The type is handset Spectrum. Golda Fishbein lettered the title. The paper, which was printed damp, was handmade at the Cartiere Miliani-Fabriano exclusively for the PWP. The etchings were pulled by Giorgio Upiglio in Milano and the printing of the text was completed in October 1979. This project is supported by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts in Washington, D.C., a Federal Agency. All rights reserved. This is copy number 47. Numero di tavole: 2 pp.s.n. Original double-sided colour photo-screenprint titled 'D- Desire', signed and numbered 20/25 by the artist, printed on wove paper by Kelpra Studio, London. One side of the print shows an enlarged image of a tarantula screened in dusty pink to a web and background in sections of dark reds and the phrase 'DESIRE' with irregular swirls further screened in white along the bottom edge, and a still of Marlene Dietrich's head screened on the head of the tarantula. The reverse image shows a section from the beginning of William Burroughs 'INTRODUCTION, disposition: testimony concerning a sickness', taken from his novel Naked Lunch, which the artist has augmented with red crayon by circled a number of words in the text (the same words have been circled on each copy of 'D-Desire' in hand by Tilson). Originally published as part of the portfolio A-Z box.Fragments of an Oneiric Alphabet in an edition of 25 box sets, 5 artist's proofs and 5 exhibition proofs, published by R. Alistair Mc Alpine Publishing, London in 1969-70. Sheet size: 75 x 50cm (image is to the edge of the sheet). Unframed. Fine condition, as issued.
