A pleasing, association copy with Ruari and Antonia Maclean's fine bookplate of seals on rocks off a mountainous coast and with a presentation inscription to them from his cousins. Light cream cloth gilt, spine darkened and boards mottled, probably due to… binder's glue or atmospheric pollution.Dust jacket rubbed at folds , price clipped and a bit frayed at head and tail. With a dust jacket design and a frontis and 8 further plates by the underrated Hans Tinsdall in a charming 1950ies style.Partially unopened at the tail folds. A very clean and well printed copy. Collates thus: xvii, [i], 258pp. Ruari Maclean is known as a typographical designer whose first employment was at the Shakespeare Head Press and later at Penguin Books. His Book collecting, particularly Victorian vivid gilt decorated cloth publishers books led him to produce several such plate books, among others. Hans Tisdall. (illustrator).
