Segnatura: *4 A-M4 N2. Buon esemplare, fresco e in barbe, in modesta seppur genuina brossura d'attesa. Kress, 6761; Kress Italian, 394; Higgs, 4862; Taccolini, 247; Re IV, p. 130; Paleari Henssler, p. 126. Cat. 26, n. 2. Buon esemplare, fresco e in barbe, in modesta seppur genuina brossura d'attesa.

Add to basketFirst collected edition of the works of a remarkable intellectual of the Italian Enlightenment. This volume presents, with some variations, the theories which Todeschi had expounded since the 1760s, and especially in his 1770 Saggi di agricoltura, manifatture e commercio, his 1774 Dissertazione sul dominio del mare, and Pensieri sulla pubblica felicità. Todeschi, an economist from Emilia Romagna, was a follower of the Neapolitan economic school of Genovesi, who rejected mercantilism in favour of a utility-based theory of value and utilitarian ethics. His essays draw on Locke, Hume, Genovesi, Savary and Botero, and place ideas in context relating specifically to the lands of the Papal States, advocating modern technologies and rationalization in agriculture, manufacturing and trade. The collected works additionally include a good number of verses composed by Todeschi on various occasions, including weddings and monastic ordinations. IT\ICCU\LIAE\017412. Einaudi 5641 (1784 edn). Not in Mattioli or Sraffa. 3 vols bound in 1, quarto (257 x 184 mm). Several finely engraved cameos and headpieces, some woodcut initials. Contemporary calf and paste paper boards, recently recovered in decorative paper, spine ruled and decorated gilt, black morocco label lettered gilt, front endpaper and pastedown renewed. Spine a little rubbed with skilful repairs at ends, a few instances of light foxing or browning, but a very good copy.
