Priestley's England - issued by the London & North Eastern Railway (1923-1948) to promote travel across England inspired by the popular 1929 novel The Good Companions about a concert party on tour by the notable English author John Boynton Priestley (189401984) featuring a great design by Tom Purvis (1888-1959) showing a train route map marking key destinations and stops on the rail lines from London to Darlington, Sheffield, Scarborough, Norwich and Ely including both real cities such as Cambridge and York and fictional locations from J.B. Priestleyâs book such as Tewborough, Ribsden, Rawsley and Sandybay, the bold title on the side above and an image of a couple walking with travelling performers including a person playing a piano and another playing music on a guitar in yellow silhouette against the black background, the rest of the text below - We Carried 'The Good Companions' Now Let Us Carry You. This award winning book was published by William Heinemann Ltd; the story has been adapted for theatre, film, TV and radio and as a stage musical. Printed by Vincent Brooks Day and Son Ltd Litho London. Good condition, restored folds, restored tears, staining, backed on linen. Size: 102x64cm.

Original antique World War One poster - Our Day To Help at the Front our wounded from Home & Overseas - issued by The British Red Cross Society & Order of St John for an event on 21 October 1915. Great artwork by Tom Purvis (1888-1959) showing a group of men in different military uniform from the armed forces looking towards the viewer, one with bandages around his head, another wearing a sling and one wearing an eye patch, in front of a medical Red Cross flag with images of doctors by an ambulance and a rescue boat headed towards a ship on the side. Good condition, restored folds, minor staining, backed on linen. Size: 76x51cm.

Original vintage poster issued by the Empire Marketing Board EMB to encourage people to help the economy following the Great Depression in America by buying British goods - Buy British from the Empire at Home & Overseas - featuring a dynamic design by the notable British artist Tom Purvis (1888-1959) depicting a silhouette in red and black of a man working with the EMB crown logo and bold text below. The Empire Marketing Board (EMB 1926-1933) was formed to promote intra-Empire trade. Printed for HM Stationery Office by Waterlow and Sons Ltd London Dunstable and Watford. Original vintage event poster for the BIF British Industries Fair held in London from 18 February to 3 March 1935 Engineering and Hardware section will be held in Birmingham 20-31 May featuring a striking Art Deco design by Tom Purvis (1888-1959) featuring a stylised image of a man in a helmet holding a key with the bold text in red lettering. Excellent condition, backed on linen. Size: 51x38cm.

Manuscript. Condition: Very Good. TLs on headed notepaper dated June 3, 1935, humorously declining invitation to a sherry party. The feature of this brief witty reply is the signature image in two colours of a red nosed gentleman partaking of a large glass of sherry. Tom Purvis studied at the Camberwell School of Art, he served with the Artists' Rifles in France during WW1. From 1923 he was heavily involved in the creation of art work advertising, especially for LNER. By the late 1930s he was described as the " biggest name in British commercial design." The signature offered here is a good example of Purvis's bold two dimensional style that he was noted for.

Manuscript. Condition: Very Good. On the verso of the menu the Savage Club cartoonist evidently portrays Tom Purvis in his former guise as a member of the Artists' Rifles in action during WW1 with his paint brush and easel, not his rifle. In the wide margin of the printed image Tom Purvis has added a humorous signed pencil sketch of a cursing British Tommy looking on in shock. Tom Purvis studied at the Camberwell School of Art, he served with the Artists' Rifles in France during WW1. From 1923 he was heavily involved in the creation of art work advertising, especially for LNER. By the late 1930s he was described as the " biggest name in British commercial design.".
