Paperback. Condition: Fair. This course was written in response to a JACT (Joint Association of Classical Teachers) survey of over 100 schools. It offers a fast-track route to GCSE for those with limited time. It is based on experience of what pupils find difficult, concentrating on the essentials and on the understanding of principles in both accidence and syntax: minor irregularities are postponed and subordinated so that the need for rote learning is reduced. It aims to be user-friendly, but also to give pupils a firm foundation for further study. The course has been tested and refined in 15 schools over the last three years. Part 1 covers the basics: the main declensions, a range of active tenses and a vocabulary of 275 Greek words to be learned. Pupil confidence is built up by constant consolidation of the material covered. After the preliminaries, each chapter concentrates on stories with one source or subject: Aesop, the "Odyssey" and Alexander the Great. Part 1 is self-contained, with its own reference section. A readable copy of the book which may include some defects such as highlighting and notes. Cover and pages may be creased and show discolouration.

Paperback. Condition: Very Good. This is the OCR-endorsed publication from Bloomsbury for the Latin AS and A-Level (Group 3) prescription of Aeneid Book XII, lines 1106, 614727, and the A-Level (Group 4) prescription of Aeneid Book XII, lines 728952, giving full Latin text, commentary and vocabulary, with a detailed introduction that also covers the prescribed text to be read in English for A Level. Aeneid XII is the final book of Virgils Roman epic. The war fought between Aeneas refugee Trojans and the people of Latium here reaches a bloody, moving climax. The OCR selection contains two scenes of rich emotion focussed on the Italian war-leader Turnus as he reacts to military defeat and crisis, followed by the full narrative of the decisive single combat between Turnus and Aeneas with which the poem concludes. This is one of the great passages in Latin literature grand in content and style, complex and challenging in its subject matter. Resources are available on the Companion Website. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Originally published in 1923 this is regarded as one of the most comprehensive school memorial books of all time. It gives a most detailed biography and photograph of over 400 Old Tonbridgians who gave their lives. One of these was Lieutenant Henry Webber, killed in action at the age of 68! Additionally there are summaries of the service of around 2000 others from Tonbridge School who served before the Armistice. Several appendices of honours and awards, including overseas awards, are included. Lists of those taken prisoner of war or interned are very useful as well. A most worthwhile book of almost 700 pages. Highly recommended.

It examines the conflict between a group of parishioners who desired a new church and the opposition they faced from the local vicar and patron. The dispute highlights the complexities of church governance and the challenges faced by those seeking to expand religious provision during a period of significant social and religious change. The author draws on extensive archival research to provide a detailed account of the events, exploring the motivations of the key players and the broader ecclesiastical and legal context in which they operated. Through this case study, the book sheds light on the tensions between local autonomy and diocesan authority, as well as the role of the laity in shaping the religious landscape of Victorian England. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
