Page dimensions: 179 x 122mm. Three full page illustrations, small vignette on title page, 2 small maps. An abridged edition for younger readers, ages 10 to 12. Escott-Inman's original work was a novel, based on the true story of a shipwreck on the Auckland Islands (one of New Zealand's groups of subantarctic islands) in 1907. Twelve lives were lost in the wreck, and fifteen survivors had to fend for themselves on Disappointment Island for eight months until their rescue.
