No dust jacket. A scarce first edition by this New Zealand author about the Hawkes Bay uprising.

Her writing is not dated still holding up well in modern times. CONDITION Green illustrated cloth, colour frontis plate, 252 pages with 4 plate illus in b/w. Cloth has very light insect damage to front eps and small drip mark to leading edge. Otherwise copy is bright and crisp. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

Page dimensions: 179 x 122mm. Three full page illustrations, small vignette on title page, 2 small maps. An abridged edition for younger readers, ages 10 to 12. Escott-Inman's original work was a novel, based on the true story of a shipwreck on the Auckland Islands (one of New Zealand's groups of subantarctic islands) in 1907. Twelve lives were lost in the wreck, and fifteen survivors had to fend for themselves on Disappointment Island for eight months until their rescue.
