The Anglo-Argentine Tramways Company was founded in 187…6, and over the next few decades it acquired many of the tramways in Argentina, becoming by the start of the 20th c. owner of the largest tramway network in the world. In 1911 the company began construction on the first underground tramway in Buenos Aires. The present prospectus is for shares issued "to provide capital towards the construction of the subways and for the general capital purposes of the Company". The subway opened in December, 1913.
