Explorations in Ethiopian Linguistics brings together twelve contributions on linguistic problems at the interface of morphosyntax and semantics/pragmatics in Semitic, Cushitic and Omotic languages of Ethiopia. The first section of the volume consists of two articles on interrogativity in Amharic and Baskeet. Their main concern is the morphosyntax and use of yes/no and content questions, and the morphology of interrogative pronouns. The second section assembles four chapters dealing with complex predicates in Amharic, Koorete, Zargulla and Xamtanga. They point out the semantic/pragmatic differences between complex predicates and their monoverbal counterparts, the morphosyntactic properties of the component verbs, and the differences between complex predicates and multi-clausal constructions. The six contributions of the third section are dedicated to issues of finiteness in Libido and various Ethiosemitic languages including Amharic, Ge'ez, Gurage languages and Tigrinya. The studies show that a high degree of linguistic variability occurs in finiteness marking in these languages. In discussing verb forms that are neither fully finite nor fully infinite they provide further support for the hypothesis that finiteness should be considered a relational - scalar rather than an absolute - binary category.Most articles are based on presentations made at the 18th International Conference of Ethiopian Studies held from 29 October until 2 November 2012 in Dire Dawa, Ethiopia, and, thus, reflect recent research trends in the description of Ethiopian languages. In der zweiten Hälfte gab es dann verschiedene Fachtexte zur Vertiefung des Inhaltes. Diese sollten innerhalb der gemeinsamen Sitzungstermine in der Gruppe diskutiert werden. Allerdings fielen unglücklicher Weise zahlreiche Termine aus, weshalb keine gemeinsamen Besprechungen und Diskussion zu einigen der Texte stattfanden. Als Prüfung sollten zum Schluss des Seminares vier von den Fachtexten ausgewählt werden und inhaltlich in chronologischer Reihenfolge des Seminars zusammengefasst werden, mit der jeweiligen Diskussion im Anschluss. Bei den Fachtexten, welche nicht im Unterricht besprochen werden konnte, blieb es uns offen eine Art eigenständige Diskussion zu den Texten zu führen. Für meine Hausarbeit wählte ich vier Fachtexte aus, deren Besprechung im Unterricht nicht stattgefunden hat.Der erste Fachtext befasst sich mit den Symptomen der schizophrenen Psychosen, der zweite mit den Ursachen, der dritte mit sozialpsychiatrischen Interventionen bei Schizophrenie und der vierte mit Innovative patientenzentrierte Versorgungssystem. Ich hielt diese Auswahl von Texten für sinnvoll um sowohl die Symptome und Ursachen als auch die Versorgung von Erkrankten zu vertiefen und eine praxisrelevante Übersicht zu liefern. Zu allen Texten werde ich im Anschluss Auskunft darüber geben, wo sie erschienen sind, wer sie warum geschrieben hat, Informationen über die Autoren geben, sie inhaltlich mit den Kernaussagen zusammenfassen, zum Schluss eine Bewertung und Meinung zu den Texten abliefern und eine Frage zur Diskussion auf Basis des Textes beisteuern.

Auch heute boomt die Glücksforschung wieder. Gleich auf mehreren verschiedenen Ebenen der Wissenschaft versucht man das Glück zu erforschen. Es begeben sich verschiedenste wissenschaftliche Disziplinen auf die Suche nach dem Glück wie z.B. die Psychologie, Genetik, Soziologie, Neurologie und auch die Ökonomie. Wobei die Forscher den schwammigen Begriff 'Glück' lieber anders definieren. Denn Glück kann zuvieles bedeuten. 'Glück haben' oder auch 'glücklich sein' kann damit gemeint sein. Im englischen Spachgebrauch ist dies deutlicher zu trennen. Hier steht 'luck' für Glück haben und 'happy' für glücklich sein. Im deutschen Sprachgebrauch fällt beides unter den Begriff Glück. Die Forschung setzt sich jedoch mit dem Thema des 'glücklich sein' bzw 'happy' außeinander und spricht deshalb meisten vom 'subjektivem Wohlbefinden' anstelle von 'Glück'.
