Soft cover. Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. Glendale, CA: (Science-Fiction Advertiser), 1954. Volume VII, No. 3, the Summer, 1954 issue of Science-Fiction Advertiser; this is the new name and (somewhat) new, longer form of the earlier incarnation, Fantasy Advertiser fanzine. Roy Squires had long since taken over editing from Norman "Gus" Wilmorth by this time, and wasn't far from bringing it into its heyday. Though longer and a bit richer, at this time the fanzine was still focused on book reviews and ads, and apart from Morris Scott Dollens carried little in the way of interior art and virtually no fiction.yet. Even the reviews, essays and articles gave precious little credit to the writers, who were often the editor or his assistants. None of that would last.Cover is by Dollens, and there are a couple small ones inside by him as well. Octavo, stapled wraps, 33 numbered pages. Near Fine copy, with only the inevitable modest toning to the paper (see scans). High grade. Very sharp, undamaged copy. An early example of the uniquely American sci-fi / fantasy fanzine genre. One or two interesting articles per issue - in this case Anthony More's profile of Arthur C. Clarke - and some rare illustrations, but still, to this point in 1954, largely book reviews, ads and a bit of opinion. See scan of contents page for this issue's offerings. Nicely executed book reviews. A classic issue from a fanzine classic from the golden age of sci-fi with all its special genres; replete with the detailed trappings of that world - Science fiction, fantasy and horror, of course. But mostly the sci-fi. Very scarce under this name, the second of three. For the collector. L-pr2. Morris Scott Dollens (illustrator).

Paperback. Condition: Very Good. First Edition. New York: Ronald L. Smith, 1955. First edition. November, 1955 / whole number 46/ issue number 12 under the name Inside and Science Fiction Advertiser (which is the last name for the famed sci-fi / fantasy fanzine, which was also published under the earlier names "Fantasy Advertiser" and "Science Fiction Advertiser", though the primary focus was always Science Fiction). Ron Smith became the Editor/Publisher with the November, 1954 issue, which was also the first under this name. Octavo, stapled illustrated wraps, 42 pp. Very Good plus to about near fine; two chips at bottom front cover, peripheral toning (see scans). s This November / 1955 issue was published as Ron Smith was continuing to improve the fanzine, which had been erratic in quality in prior years; 1956, yet to come, would be perhaps the best year. Though credited artwork is still sparse, there's plenty inside to enjoy; a rare short story - "Infiltration" by Carl Larsen - and articles, editorials, essays and reviews by editor Smith, William L. Freeman, Randall Garrett, Robert Silverberg, Lin Carter, Dave Mason, James Blish, George W. Price, Carl Larsen, Joe Schaumburger, R.S. Montague, S. Ostlund, Bob Tucker - all these pieces being, and having always been to this point, the meat of the fanzine under its several names. See scan of contents page. A rarity, for the collector. l-pr1. Pat Patterson (cover); interior art undredited (illustrator).

Stapled Wraps. Condition: Near Fine. First Edition. New York: Ronald L. Smith, 1955. First edition. March, 1955 / issue number 8 under the name Inside and Science Fiction Advertiser (which is the last name for the famed sci-fi / fantasy fanzine, which was also published under the earlier names "Fantasy Advertiser" and "Science Fiction Advertiser", though the primary focus was always Science Fiction). Ron Smith became the Editor/Publisher with the November, 1954 issue, which was also the first under this name. Octavo, stapled illustrated wraps, 38 pp. Near Fine; thin peripheral toning (see scans). This March / 1955 issue was published as Ron Smith was in the process of improving the fanzine, which had been erratic in quality in prior years; 1956, yet to come, would be perhaps the best year. This issue features two sci-fi stories, The Ship and Son, a relative rarity for the article-oriented fanzine; and probably its finest collection of illustrations to this point in time - thanks to the efforts of art editor Cindy Smith. The art includes a Neil Austin cover, illustrating the story The Ship, and interior work by Austin, Cindy (Smith), Joe Gross, Alan Hunter, Ralph Rayburn Phillips, and Dave Hammond. Stories, articles and reviews (see scan of contents page) are by Joe Gibson, William L. Freeman, Bill Hamling, William F. Nolan, Charles E. Fritch, Joseph Slotkin, George Martindale, and Bob Tucker, as well as editor Ron Smith. A rarity, for the collector. l-pr1. Neil Austin, Cindy (Smith), Joe Gross, Alan Hunter, Ralph Rayburn Phillips, Dave Hammond (illustrator).
