Wiederverwendeter blindgeprägter Ledereinband mit intakten Metallschließen. Dunkler Farbschnitt.Titelkupfer mit Darstellung der 4 christlichen Kardinaltugenden. Einband stark berieben, bestoßen und verschmutzt. Seiten altersgemäß gebräunt sowie mitunter eselsohrig und vereinzelt mit kleineren Flecken und Einrissen (diese im weißen Rand). Ohne fliegende Vorsätze. Titelblatt mit dem Vermerk "M[o]n[ast]e[r]ij Neustatt" in brauner Tinte. 2. (deutlich erweiterte) Ausgabe des bereits 1611 unter dem Titel "Admirandum Vindictae Divinae Theatrum" erschienenen Werks, in dem christliche Laster und Tugenden anhand von entsprechenden "historischen" Beispielen erläutert werden. Der lateinische Text wird vereinzelt durch Übersetzungen einzelner Sätze ins Deutsche ergänzt. Die Plattenprägung auf dem Vorderdeckel ist aufgrund starker Bereibung nicht klar zu erkennen. Auf dem Rückendeckel ist Christus Salvator dargestellt (p001382). In Bezug auf diese Platte vermutet Haebler die zugehörige Werkstatt im Kurfürstentum Sachsen (Haebler I, 415-416). Die Porträtmedaillons zeigen u. a. Caspar Heidanus oder Kaspar Hedio und Jan Hus (w002862; Haebler I, 54). Da der hier vorliegende Reformationseinband augenscheinlich in das ausgehende 16. Jh. datiert, wurde er offensichtlich für diesen deutlich späteren Text eines katholischen Theologen wiederverwendet. Matthäus Tympius (1566 in Heessen - 1616 in Münster) wirkte nach einem Studium der Theologie in Köln in Jülich, Köln und Osnabrück (dort als Rektor der Domschule). Ab 1608 war er Rektor des von Dettenschen Kollegs in Münster (ADB39 (1895), S. 53-55; Lebensdaten Wikipedia). VD17 32:652121W.
