First edition, being number 163 of 500 copies signed by the author. *James Lionel Michael was born in London in 1824. He was a friend of Millais and Ruskin, and wrote a pamphlet supporting the pre-Raphaelite brotherhood. He came to New South Wales in 1853 and practised as a lawyer in Sydney and then at Grafton, on the Clarence River, where on April 26 1868, his body was found floating in the river. An open verdict was pronounced by the coroner. While in Sydney, Michael employed the poet Henry Kendall, giving him friendship and encouragement. Signed.…
