First Edition
1/4 Cloth; Decorative Boards. Condition: Very Good. First Edition. Illustrated. Unpaginated (40 pages). Undated (1926). This is the detailed description of the Manor Richelieu Golf Course at Murray Bay, Quebec, Canada designed by Herbert Strong, the book published shortly after the course opened for play. Blessed with a windy undulating site, the famed hotel Manor Richelieu chose the talented and proven golf course architect Herbert Strong to design and construct the course. This is one of, if not the best, book layouts for a course description in the literature of golf. Beginning with the book's endpapers, illustrated with a drawing of the course by L. M., the introductory three pages relate "The Setting" for the course on the banks of the mighty Lower St. Laurence River. Following this is each hole is described at length, shown with a photograph and two illustrations of the hole from an overhead and topographical side view. The author, Thomas H. Uzzell, was a contributing editor to "The American Golfer". Herbert Bertram Strong began his career as professional and clubmaker at St. George's in Sandwich, emigrating to New York as professional at Apawamis. Strong quickly transitioned to golf course remodeling and design, with over 25 original courses to his credit. Manor Richelieu near Montreal was a magnificent summer only resort open for just three months per year. Very scarce club history. Delicate covers of matt blue paper with a colorfully illustrated title label and tan cloth spine all original. Slight soiling to the cover label and spine, blue paper intact and clean. No bookplate or former owner name, contents unmarked throughout. Covers protected in mylar. D&J # U17200 Size: 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall.
