New and Revised Edition. 454 pp, the book and contents are solid, the covers are embossed Ohio School Library and have library rules and bylaws pasted on the front and rear endpapers, the pages are clean, somewhat wavy and have scattered foxing, the outside hinges have some light cracking and have been nicely strengthened, covers have some scuffing and light wear, the corners are worn and lightly bumped, bottom of the spine has a shelf label at the bottom, this is a very usable book.

Rear board corners replaced with brown cloth. Front board original corners are worn. There is a figure drawn in ink on the page opposite the title page.

Charles William Vane (17781854), formerly Charles Stewart, was a British cavalry officer and diplomat. This is his account of the Peninsular War, recounting the movement of the forces, the strategies employed, and their effectiveness. The Peninsular War (18071814) was a major conflict during the Napoleonic Wars in which the allied forces of Spain, Portugal, and Britain fought against the invading French Empire on the Iberian Peninsula. The war is known for its brutality, use of guerrilla warfare, and for the emergence of Arthur Wellesley as a prominent British commander, later known as the Duke of Wellington. In the publisher's original red cloth binding with bind stamp decoration, with gilt to spine. Externally, smart. slight rubbing and bumping to extremities, particularly the spine, with the odd chip and closed tear to head and tail, with slight loss at head. Closed tear at joint and spine label. Scattered spotting to endpapers. Hinges slightly strained. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages bright and clean if a little age toned. Scattered spotting, heavier to fore edge and first and last few leaves. Very Good. book.

These are beautiful books in mostly good condition. The covers of both volumes are in excellent condition. Binding is sound. There are no loose pages. Each volume has an ex libris sticker on the inside of the front cover. The pages of both volumes show some wear and age. There is some light staining and discolouration around the edges. But they are in good condition considering their publication date of 1829. Please advise us if you require additional photos or information.

Bound in modern brown cloth, gilt title on spine, binding slightly worn and soiled, first and last pages with some light foxing. Pasted on the inside of the front cover is the printed ex-libris of Henry and Mary Ponsonby (Queen Victoria's private secretary). Well written and detailed account of the penultimate allied campaign against Napoleon by an important eyewitness. Original edition containing a fine handcoloured folding map and with an interesting provenance.
