I was raised on a farm and had as pets everything from goats, chickens, lambs, hurt birds, dogs, and cats. I worked for Los Angeles Unified School District for 25 years working with Kindergarten to Junior High School. So many times I heard children say 'I'm not good at that.' and it broke my heart. I got Diesel to love and give back to our community by training him to sit on the floor of libraries and schools to encourage children to READ. Not to me but a very nonjudgmental long eared Basset Hound. We went to a Basset Hound event and that's when I discovered Diesel as hard as he tries can't or won't HOWL. He's so good at putting the children at ease when they read to him, stroking his long ears, or just stroking his fur. Does it really matter he can't howl His work is so much more important.

Book slightly smudged but otherwise sound. Very good. A souvenir booklet given to American soldiers during the liberation ofPlze? (Pilsen), Czechoslovakia in May of 1945. Heavily featuring photographs of the American 2nd Infantry (Indianhead) Division. Photographs are uncommon and appear to have not been posted on the internet.

Cover title "American Army of Plzen" title page continues "Czechoslovakia May 1945", printed in Czech and English. Oblong 16mo (6 inches tall) pp. unpaginated [2 - blanks, i-ii - title page/Address for Czech Friends, 1-16 photo pages, iii-iv - dedication page/copyright page, 2 - blanks], illustrated throughout with 16 pages of jubilant Rotogravure photo reproductions. What makes this celebratory view book special are the 10 pages with written observations added to the photos and text by an American soldier who was on the ground during the fighting. "On Sunday, after a forced march in rain and mud from Nurenberg, almost without sleep in sixty hours our first elements reached Pilsen to aid the local inhabitants who had opened warfare on the occupying Nazis. We smashed the the strong points, captured an airfield and many prisoners. Sniper fire was spasmodic. Then after a few days we advanced to the furthest line of advance east, to a point where by agreement with our Russian allies - we would not pass - but would meet advancing Russian elements." and "A few days later we heard of final capitulatance in front of this building. When we first saw this street it was raked with sniper fire.". Light soil and a single vertical crease to book, terminal leaf torn at staples. An interesting little view book, published in the same month of the Czechoslovakian liberation from the Nazis - offering an official version, alongside a soldier's more personal insights.
