The Song of Wise Oleg is based on a chronicle by Nikolay Karamzin and remains one of the most well-known Russian poems of all time. Illustrated in the style of a medieval manuscript it is richly embellished with head and tail pieces and decorated initials. The Song became a turning point in the development of the book as an integrated art form and was presented at the International Exhibition for Book Printing and Graphics in 1914.
