HLS) - Cette arbitrage "fut le dernier acte d'exécution de la paix de Morat de 1448 et qui précéda immédiatement la séparation de Fribourg avec l'Autriche. [.] Nous avons le plaisir de présenter ce document à nos lecteurs. Pour le rendre plus compréhensible, M. Usteri l'a fait précéder d'une introduction, traduite par M. Bernard de Vevey, avocat, notre secrétaire, et qui situe les événements qui y sont rappelés. Cette importante contribution à l'histoire fribourgeoise dont nous avon le primeur, fera partie du grand ouvrage sur l'histoire des tribunaux arbitraux dans tous les pays, publiée par le Carnegie Endowment of International Peace à Washington" (etc.; p. 33) - "Pour bien comprendre la signification de la sentence arbitrale du 1er avril 1451 [.] nous devons nous reporter aux événements de la guerre de 1448 entre Fribourg, d'un côté , et la Savoie et Berne, de l'autre. En somme, cette guerre n'était pas née des rapports avec la Conféderation, mais elle était la conséquence de l'antagonisme entre l'Autriche et la Savoie, qui se trouvaient en état de guerre depuis septembre 1445 déjà. Fribourg était, alors encore, une ville autrichienne, mais qui jouissait de libertés certainement très étendues." (etc.; p. 34) -- Zur Entwicklung von Spannungen und Konflikten zwischen Freiburg einerseits, sowie Bern und Savoyen andererseits, die Freiburg 1452-1477 unter savoyische Herrschaft brachten, vgl. Geschichte des Kantons Freiburg, 1981, pp. 180-183 (allerding ohne diesen Schiedsspruch zu erwähnen). Gaston Castella seinerseits schildert zwar die Umstände der Auseinandersetzungen und die Tatsache der hohen Schulden Freiburgs, streift die in der vorliegenden Schrift dokumentierte Mediation jedoch nur, ohne konkret darauf einzugehen (Histoire du canton de Fribourg, 1922, pp. 112-117) : "Au début de l'année 1451, le bruit courut à Fribourg que le duc Sigismond avait l'intention de vendre la ville au duc de Savoie. La rumeur pouvait mériter créance: Fribourg était incapable de payer ses dettes et l'Autriche ne songeait point à les acquitter à sa place. [.] De nombreux arbitrages [.] qui visaient à régler la question des redevances [.] ne firent qu'accroître les dissentiments.
