Flourishing at a time when the Romans were striving to produce a literature that would match the Greek, Virgil sought to imitate the ancient Greek genres. This is best exemplified in the 'Georgics' and the 'Aeneid' where he took for his models the didactic poems of Hesiod and the epics of Homer respectively". John Pine (1690-1756) was a famous English engraver. The original edition of this work was first published in 1753. Illustrated with engravings. Book is in 3 parts. Text in Latin.
