1st and 2nd volumes with 26x18 cm; 3rd volume with 33x26cm. xii, 688 + [vi], 228 + [vi], cvi pp. Soft cover. Well illustrated with an hors text portrait of the author in the first volume, 18 images and schemes in text in the first and second volumes; in the third volume 426 photographs by Vroklage. It includes musical notations and tables with the names of the observed family members. This work is based on the anthropological research performed between 1936 and 1938 and describes and analyses in detail several aspects of the life of the Belos people, namely the material and social culture, religion, dances and also the games and the psychological issues of the children. The Belos kingdom was located in the centre of the Timor Island, part in the Dutch side and part in the Portuguese side. Their language was the Tetum, which is still today one of the official languages in East Timor. A rare copy of a high quality work, with valuable information and very important for the study and knowledge of the people in the Portuguese Timor, which became an independent country in 2002. Bernard Andreas Gregorius Vroklage, (Oldemarkt 1897 ? Nijmegen 1951), priest of the Divine Word Congregation, studied systematic theology in Rome and Anthropology at the Vienna University, where he presented his thesis on the Borneo?s social relationships. In 1938 he became professor at the Teteringuen Seminary and later, in 1948, at the Nijmegen Catholic University. Language: Alemão / German Location/localizacao: I-42A-C-19.
