Bei seiner erlebnis-gestützten Schilderung der Anfängerbemühungen ging es Lambach vo allem um die Allgegenwart informeller Abläufe und Insider-Netzwerkerei. Er hatte bei seiner Erzählung spektakuläre Hilfe: sein Franktionskollege Johann Georg von Dietz, der 1924 ins Parlament eingezogen war, lieferte eine Sammlung von rund 600 Fotos, von denen Lambach mehr als 50 in seinem Buch verwertete - Schnappschüsse jenseits pressefotografischer Routineaufnahmen. Seine Geschichten und von Dietz' Bilder dokumentierten das Bemühen der Volksvertreter im Spagat zwischen Verfassungsauftrag und persönlicher Auftragsarbeit. Der Staatsrechtler und frühere Bundestagsjurist Philipp Austermann hält das Buch deshalb für eine relevante Quelle: Sambach habe versucht, gegenüber den Institutionen und allen Parteien fair zu sein.
