Having taken office following Richard Nixon's resignation the preceding month, Gerald Ford thanks former Democratic Congresswoman Edna F. Kelly for her good wishes "I can't tell you how pleased I am to have your good wishes as I begin my duties as President, and I know that you will understand that the delayed response in no way diminishes my appreciation." "Having your support is most heartwarming and encouraging, and I'll do my utmost to continue to merit your high regard". Signed "Jerry Ford". Folded once for mailing, else fine. From the collection of Paul K. Carr (1934-2023), the former President of the Universal Autograph Collector Club (UACC). Gerald Ford (1913-2006) took office as President of the United States on August 9, 1974 following Richard Nixon's resignation. He served until January 20, 1977. The first woman congress member from Brooklyn, Edna F. Kelly (1906-1997) served ten terms as the Democratic Congresswoman from New York, from 1949 to 1969. A member of the Democratic National Committee, she served as a ranking member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs and Chaired the Subcommittee on Europe. She was responsible for helping resettle refugees from Russia and Eastern Europe and people displaced following World War II. She served as Secretary of the House Democratic Caucus and, before retiring in 1969, had helped to create the United States Arms Control and Disarmament Agency.

Silk bookmark. From a limited edition of 94 signed copies, this being numbered "1 of 94" on the limitation page. This posthumous publication was created from additional signature pages from President Nixon's 1980 publication of "The Real War." As is typical with a signed limited edition book, the author signs additional limitation pages in case some are damaged during the printing process. The overstock was purchased by The Flatsigned Press and used to create this limited edition publication in 2009. Signed.

Condition: Very good. - One-and-a-half pages, consisting of over 140 penned on both sides of his 7-3/4 inch high by 7-1/4 inch wide personal stationery. Holbrook has crossed out his former address and penned in a new one along the top. Responding to his friend Jean Dalrymple, Holbrook writes "I don't know what to tell you. Out of deference to the I.P.A. I should say 'please do join it', but I wonder if it could help you in any fashion. I know you could help it buy being a member. It is mainly an organization of the grass-roots people in the concert and lecture field and I owe it an allegiance since through its auspices I got started in the concert field." Signed "Hal". Jean Dalrymple has circled Holbrook's name in light red graphite at the top with a red check mark across the text indicating she'd read the letter. Folded for mailing with a paper clip stain to the top of the verso. Near fine. The American stage & screen actor Harold Rowe "Hal" Holbrook, Jr. (1925-2021) won the Tony Award for his portrayal of Mark Twain in a play in 1966. He made his first appearance in film in Sidney Lumet's "The Group" in that same year and gained fame for his role as the Watergate whistle blower "Deep Throat" in "All the President's Men". Holbrook appeared in numerous films including "Magnum Force", "Capricorn One", "The Firm" and earned an Academy Award and a Screen Actor Guild's Award nomination for Best Supporting actor in Sean Penn's "Into The Wild".Jean Dalrymple (1902-1998) was the dynamic producer and director of theater and light-opera at Manhattan's City Center. Dalrymple began her career in Vaudeville, appearing with James Cagney and Cary Grant in the early 1930s. She was a founding member of the American Theatre Wing, the theatre service organization. She worked over the years as a personal manager for the likes of Leopold Stokowski, Mary Martin, Jose Iturbi, Andre Kostalanetz, Nathan Milstein, and Lily Pons. She began her work at City Center with its founding in 1943, serving as a board member, producer, and publicist. Her productions there from the 1940s through the 1960s were a revitalizing influence on the whole New York theatre scene. In 1951, Jean Dalrymple married Major-General Philip deWitt Ginder, commander of the Thunderbirds in Korea. She was a friend to Presidents and entertainment personalities throughout the world.
