Born in Adelaide, Samuel Albert White (1870-1954) became the President of the South Australian Ornithological Association and of the Royal Australasian Ornithologists' Union. White conducted several major collecting expeditions, made an ornithological survey of South Australia and the Northern Territory, and collaborated with Gregory Mathews on The Birds of Australia.
