Softcover. Condition: G+ (Average wear to edges). Blue & silver illus. wraps, 240 pp., many color & BW illus. Issued in conjunction with several 2004 exhibitions showcasing the work of Victorian designer Christopher Dresser (1834-1904). "His is hardly a household name, but his position as the first professional designer for industry has made him one of the most influential figures of the nineteenth century as seen through twenty-first-century eyes. The road to full recogniztion of his importance has been long and slow." (foreword) With seven essays and chapters that devote space to Dresser's life as well as his creations in furnishings, textiles, ceramics, and more. Fascinating.

Published by Kraus Reprint / The Hakluyt Society, Millwood NY / London, 1967
Hardcover. cxxxii, 296p., illustrated with a frontispiece and a large folded map made for The Society. Hardbound in medium-blue cloth boards gilt, styled after the Hakluyt original. Casebinding and textblock are perfectly sound and square, cleanly and unmarked, but the map is slightly misfolded now (and perhaps was not adequately thought out by Kraus binder). Nice map, though. Laid in is a twelve-page xerox with four pages done in bright color, entitled "On Behalf of PresterJohn: The Storming of Bacanete, Haramat, Ethiopia, 2 February, 1542", corner-stapled. This xerox fascicle is thick and has slightly disturbed front hinge, where it was set. Second series no. X.
