Schaechterle (1879-1971) "entwarf und baute Eisenbahnbrücken für Neubaustrecken und ging dabei unkonventionelle Wege, indem er anstelle von Stahlbrücken gewölbte und balkenförmige Bauwerke aus Eisenbeton errichtete, deren Theorie er bereits in seiner Dissertation behandelt hatte. 1911/13 verfaßte er Berichte über diese damals für Eisenbahnbrücken in Preußen noch verbotene Bauweise, wobei er auf Erfahrungen im Straßenbrückenbau zurückgreifen konnte, Neuerungen aber an Materialprüfanstalten testen ließ. Der Umbau des Stuttgarter Hauptbahnhofs 1910-16 stellte S. vor außergewöhnliche Aufgaben, denn er mußte Brücken mit schwieriger Geometrie auf äußerst schwierigem Baugrund realisieren. 1920-35 war er als Brückenreferent der Reichsbahndirektion in Stuttgart auch für Straßenbrücken über Bahnstrecken zuständig und arrbeitete an der Entwicklung der Stahlleichtfahrbahn mit. S. beteiligte sich 1930 maßgeblich an der Schaffung einheitlicher Normen für massive Brücken, wobei er sich an den von ?Gottwalt Schaper (18731942), dem Brückenreferenten im Reichsverkehrsministerium, bereits 1925 fertiggestellten Nonnen für eiserne Brücken orientierte. Wegen seiner großen Erfahrung wurde er 1935 für den Bau der Autobahnbrücken in das Reichsverkehrsministerium berufen und mit der technischen Weiterentwicklung und ansprechenden Gestaltung der Brücken betraut. . S. leistete namhafte Beiträge zum Fortschritt und zur Baukultur im Brückenbau der 20er und 30er Jahre. Viele, auch später gebaute, Brücken spiegeln dies wider" (J.
