Boards very good, spine dusted. Some sections are starting to come loose. Apparent bleeding from the spine cloth has caused red staining to several inner margins. First published in 1932, this is the 4th and apparently final printing (1944), with RH Ardill's book of the same name appearing in 1945. Ingrams wrote it and a separately published "School History" (1931) while he was Assistant Colonial Secretary on Mauritius, in between his postings to Zanzibar and Aden. The Schools Committee adopted it as their official textbook for higher primary and middle secondary classes. It contains descriptions of Mauritian districts and dependencies, illustrated with photos of local scenes by Roger Halbwachs. Rare, with 6 locations for all printings on Worldcat and Library Hub (1932 at BL, Oxford, National Library of Scotland, NYPL; 1940 at National Library of Australia; and 1944 at Stellenbosch).

Der Einband ist leicht nachgedunkelt und geringfügig berieben, der Buchrücken sowie Ecken und Kanten sind leicht geknickt und weisen minimale Einrisse auf. Vor der Titelei ist die Bindung geringfügig angebrochen. Der Buchblock weist leichte Knickspuren auf. Kleine Bleistiftnotiz auf dem Hinterdeckel unten, ansonsten textsauber. Overall, this very rare copy of the first edition, first impression is a good copy with only slight signs of wear. The cover is slightly darkened and slightly rubbed, the spine and corners and edges are slightly bent and have minimal tears. The book block shows slight creases. The binding is slightly broken in front of the title page. Small pencil note on the bottom of the back cover, otherwise the text is clean. Book from a non smoking environment.
