John Romney (June 1785 - 1 Fe…bruary 1863) Was An English Artist In Printmaking And Watercolor Who Lived And Worked In London And Chester. Much Of His Work Consisted Of Reproductions Of The Work Of Other Artists, But He Produced Some Original Prints, Paintings And Drawings. Like The Great Majority Of Contemporary Printmakers He Worked In Both Engraving And Etching, Often On The Same Plate, And Descriptions Of His Prints As Being In One Or The Other Technique Should Be Taken Loosely. His Best Known Original Prints Are Series Of Views Of The Chester Area And His Part Of One On The Antiquities In The British Museum. No Binding. Condition: Very Good. Large (22 x 18 inches), stipple engraving magnificently PRINTED IN COLOURS. This is probably a proof as the artist's and engraver's names have not been added to the plate as yet and the quality is exceptional. One small marginal tear repaired, not affecting the image and the margins are a little… browned but quite acceptable. This is the rare large size version of this well known image in the ultimate de luxe version, printed in colours (not a later uncoloured version) which is very scarce. Such was the difficulty of this method of colour printing only small numbers were issued. PRINTS/MAPS HOPS PRINTS/MAPS.
