Add to baskethardcover. Condition: Near Fine. First Edition. Publication: London, Lion and Unicorn Press, 1959 Formatting: Small 4to, pp. 99. Condition Report: Near Fine. The book presents beautifully, with the original canvas boards remaining crisp and free from any significant soiling or toning. The red cloth spine is exceptionally bright, and the gilt lettering remains completely unoxidised and sharp. There is only the most trivial suggestion of shelf-wear to the extremities, specifically faint rubbing to the lower board corners. The binding remains perfectly tight and square, with uncracked endpapers. Internally, the pages are highly bright, clean, and free from any foxing, spotting, or tears. The original clear acetate dust wrapper is present and Very Good, showing some mild scuffing and minor edge-wear standard for this delicate material, but remaining largely intact and highly protective. Catalogue Note: First thus, strictly limited to 200 copies produced by the Royal College of Art's prestigious Lion and Unicorn Press. This finely produced facsimile reproduces a unique Elizabethan writing manual held in the Bodleian Library, Oxford. It features an expert introduction, translations, and transcriptions by Berthold Wolpe, the celebrated typographer and designer. Copies of this edition are notably scarce on the open market, particularly those that have survived with their original, unprinted clear acetate wrappers intact. A beautiful facsimile of a 16th-century English writing manual, A Newe Booke of Copies 1574 preserves the elaborate calligraphy and instructional texts of the Elizabethan era. Edited by renowned typographer Berthold Wolpe, the volume not only reproduces the intricate original plates, showcasing various historical scripts like the Secretary Hand, but also provides modern transcriptions, translations, and historical context. Printed in a highly limited run, this book is a superb resource for paleographers, calligraphers, and collectors of fine press printing. N/A (illustrator).…
