Add to basketSoft cover. Condition: New. 1st Edition. Printed with black, silver and red inks on found, left over, and scrap papers that have accumulated at Caliban Press over time. In some cases over a lot of time. Japan, China, Nepal, India, Spain, France, Germany, England, Canada, Mexico, are all represented - particularly Papeterie St-Armand, Montreal. Decorated with the inevitable volvelle and much else. Semi-stiff red hand-made paper covers, titled in black, spiral-bound. One of 100 copies signed by the printer. A new copy. 'Conceived as a way to document a growing collection of wood type which eventually filled some 53 cases with some 75 fonts. Realizing there was too much type for a single volume showing alphabets, figures, punctuation marks, as well as words & phrases, I decided to devote the first volume to figures - which is what printers generally call numerals or numbers. Volume 2 is planned to be complete alphabets, with volume 3 for words & phrases. Signed by Author(s).

Add to basketFrom the estate of Gunter Böhmer (1911-1986). (Ruvigliana ), 1940-47. Interesting document of the friendship between the graphic artist Imre Reiner and his wife Hedwig, and Maria Geroe-Tobler (1895-1963), friend of the painter Hans Purrmann, known for her colorful woven wall hangings. Born in St. Gallen, she studied at the Bauhaus Dessau and was a pupil of Klee, Kandinsky, and Gunta Stölzl, the weaving teacher there; since 1925, she lived in Montagnola, where she also befriended Hermann Hesse and his wife Ninon. Most of the prints were birthday greetings, inscribed, e.g., "zum 12. XII. 1940 mit den herzlichsten Wünschen I.R." Two leaves pertain to the novel "Madame Bovary" and were executed in 1935, 1 color etching has the date 1937 in the plate. A short handwritten note signed "Hedwig, Imre, Michael und Roland Reiner" is addressed to "Die liebe Frau Mareili Geroe-Tobler", another letter on stationery with Hedwig Reiner's letterhead in the addressed envelope is in Hedwig's hand, signed "Hedwig u. Imre Reiner". It refers to Gunter Böhmer: "Wir wollen ganz fest hoffen u. bitten, dass der liebe Boehmer weiterhin malen u. zeichnen darf". Böhmer lived in Montagnola too and was a friend of both the Reiners and Maria Geroe-Tobler. - Some foxing. ART - GENERAL & APPLIED ; AUTOGRAPHS ;

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - Specimens of New Process Wood Type! was issued by the William H. Page Wood Type Company in 1890. The development of die-cut 'new process wood type' was a response to competition from J. E. Hamilton's veneer Holly Wood Type, which was sold at a much lower cost than Page's traditional wood type cut by pantograph in end-grain maple. The 'new process' proved to be short lived, because one year after this specimen was published William Page sold his wood type company to Hamilton in 1891. Hamilton incorporated all of Page's designs and equipment, and continued to sell the die-cut type until 1906, and the borders into the 1940s. This is the only specimen that shows all of Page's die-cut wood type and border designs.
