Dark cloth covers clean with no significant wear but slight bottom spine bumping and loss of surface sheen to back plus some faint brown flecking to front endpaper reduce it from VG to VG- rating in my view.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. WRIGHT, Sir Almroth E. The Unexpurgated Case Against Woman Suffrage. London: Constable and Company Ltd., 1913. First edition. xv, [1], 86, [2] pp. Original blue cloth, lettered and ruled in gilt to the upper board and spine, in the original printed dust jacket priced 2/6 net on the rear panel. Page edges uncut and many gatherings unopened. Book very good plus, the cloth bright and the gilt strong, with only minor rubbing and a few small marks. Dust jacket good to very good, complete, with toning to the spine, general grubbiness and marking to the panels, rubbing and small chips at the spine ends and corners, and a few short closed tears and creases at the edges. An unusually well-preserved copy in the scarce original jacket. A notorious anti-suffrage polemic by the physician and bacteriologist Sir Almroth Wright, published at the height of the militant campaign for votes for women. Wright attempts to rebut the arguments for women's political equality before advancing his own case against the parliamentary franchise, based upon supposed female deficiencies in physical force, intellect and public morality. His book provides a striking record of the prejudices confronted by the suffrage movement. Copies of the first edition occur in the publisher's cloth, but survival in the original dust jacket is considerably less common.

First Edition. [Anti-Feminism] FIRST EDITION. Octavo (23 x 15cm), pp.xv [1] 86 [2]. Publisher's blue cloth, gilt titles to upper board and spine. Edges untrimmed. Appendix to rear. Interior lightly toned, gentle spotting to endpapers. Small bookplate to front pastedown. Textblock edges toned. Some faint white marking to boards, rubbing to joints and extremities. Very good. A shocking, almost laughable 70-page tirade arguing against women's suffrage. Providing no actual evidence, Wright delivers chapters on women's intellectual inferiority, the 'biological differences' between a woman's brain and a man's, women's insufficient morality - and finally, a discussion of how best to palliate women if the suffragette movement were to fail - namely, by telling them to just get over themselves. A fascinating look at the inanity women had to endure merely to establish themselves as equal human beings.
