Karl Wilhelm Wutzer (1789-1863), geschätzter Chirurg, wurde 1807 Unterarzt im Charitekrankenhaus und 1808 Compagniechirurgus in der Armee, der er in den Garnisonen Kolberg, Potsdam und Berlin angehörte. 1812 erhielt er eine Anstellung als Oberarzt und Lehrer an der Pepiniere. Sehr unerwartet für ihn ernannte die medizinische Fakultät zu Erfurt ihn am 12. Januar 1814 zum Dr. med. et chir. und bald darauf erfolgte seine Ernennung zum Stabsarzt. 1815 - 1816 legte er die medizinische Staatsprüfung ab und habilitierte sich 1817 mit der sehr sorgfältigen Monographie "De corporis humani gangliorum fabrica atque usu" bei der Universität als Privatdozent. Als Regimentsarzt kam er nach Wesel, Torgau und 1821 nach Münster, wo er die erwünschte Gelegenheit fand, zum Lehrberuf zurückzukehren. 1830 wurde er als Nachfolger Weinhold's auf die chirurgische Lehrkanzel nach Halle berufen, übernahm aber schon 1833 bedingt durch das Ausscheiden Philipp von Walthers die chirurgische Klinik in Bonn. Seine Publikationen umfassen 52 Nummern und enthalten außer Berichten über die med.-chirurg. Lehranstalt in Münster hauptsächlich Aufsätze, die in Rust's Magazin, Graefe und Walther's Journal, Müller's Archiv und dem von ihm zusammen mit seinen Bonner Kollegen herausgegebenen Organ für die gesammte Heilkunde erschienen sowie in der Rheinischen Monatsschrift für praktische Aerzte, und in der Deutschen Klinik. Als vorzüglicher Operateur hat er sich um die Ausbildung einzelner Operationen besonders verdient gemacht, so um die Radikalheilung beweglicher Leistenbrüche, die Sehnendurchschneidung bei Verkrümmungen, die Operation der Blasenscheidenfistel, die Operation des Dammrisses etc. Engelmann 647; Hirsch/Hübotter V, 1008/1009.
