Richard Wilhelm Karl Theodor Ritter von Hertwig was a German zoologist notable as the first to describe zygote formation as the fusing of spermatozoa inside the…membrane of an egg cell during fertilization. The author, Karl Ritter[a] von Frischwas a German-Austrian ethologist who received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1973.The author, Jonathan Adolf Wilhelm Zenneck was a German physicist and electrical engineer. Zenneck improved the cathode-ray tube by adding a second deflection structure at right angles to the first, which allowed two-dimensional viewing of a waveform. This two-dimensional display is fundamental to the oscilloscope. This paper, "Wissenschaft und Volk" (Science and the People) was delivered by physicist Jonathan Zenneck at the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities during its 178th anniversary. The speech called for scientific institutions to abandon ivory-tower isolation and align with Nazi-era nationalist ideology by proving their practical "service to the people".The address represents a key example of how respected German academics compromised their fields with Nazi demands for practical utility and ideological conformity.
