Add to basketPaperback. Condition: Very Good. The definitive edition of Dylan Thomas's five published volumes of poems: 18 POEMS, TWENTY-FIVE POEMS, THE MAP OF LOVE, DEATHS AND ENTRANCES and IN COUNTRY SLEEP. Dylan Thomas wrote passionately about life in all its moods and moments: from the first thrilling moments of childbirth to the darker moments of death and loss. COLLECTED POEMS is introduced by the poet himself with a passionate seashore 'Prologue', in which the self-styled Noah of poetry builds his ark against ruin. This edition includes his last, unfinished poem 'Elegy', and the opening of 'In Country Heaven' - an ambitious project conceived after the dropping of the atom bomb. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Hard Cover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Included. First Trade Edition. First trade edition, first printing. Publisher's green paper-covered boards, with front board and spine lettered in dark red, and portrait-photograph of Thomas by Marion Morehouse to title page; in its original cream dust jacket, lettered in red. Near fine book, with a hint of soiling to boards, and a touch of toning to edges and endpapers; good or better unclipped dust jacket, with some toning to spine and panels, a small chip to center of spine (lettering only very slightly affected), a chip to top left of front panel ("D" in "Dylan" very partially affected), a small closed tear to top right of front panel, and considerable separation along front flap fold (flap is still holding). Overall, a sturdy copy, without any tears to pages. Published in 1952, In Country Sleep was the last volume of poetry released by Dylan Thomas in his lifetime (he died one year later) and contains six poems: "Over Sir John's Hill," "Poem on His Birthday," "Do not go gentle into that good night," "Lament," "In the White Giant's Thigh," and "In Country Sleep." "Do not go gentle into that good night" is arguably Thomas' most famous poem, a villanelle that urges the reader to not meekly succumb to death ("Rage, rage against the dying of the light"). Interestingly, the poem is quoted multiple times in Christopher Nolan's science fiction epic, Interstellar (2014).
