Hardcover. Condition: Collectible - Acceptable. No Jacket. First Edition. First page has a gift inscription from the previous owners in 1934. Front hindge is starting to split. Otherwise binding is slightly brittle but still functional. Moderate rubbing to the edges and corners of the coverboards. Head of the spine has two small tears where they meet the front and back coverboards.

Sewn wrappers with original envelop.  Pamphlet covers lightly soiled, with some spotting to rear cover but otherwise pages clean and bright.  Best wishes slip bound in at front. The accompanying envelop, with Medici Society Stamp in upper left corner, is worn and soiled, with several small tears to folds.

Bumps to bottom cover else very clean. Illustrated by Cecil Aldin with B&W drawings. His name misspelled on front cover (Alden). No DJ. I believe it was issued with a plain glassine cover. Unusual binding with pages folded at top and uncut. Thus an illustrated page faces the text page both with blank backs connected at the top. Delightful and touching story and drawings of a mischievious but devoted black Scottie dog.

Pictorial paper wrapped boards, black cloth for back strip, red and black lettering, unopened at head of leaves. Still wrapped in publishers onion skin.

English journalist, short-story writer, poet, and novelist Rudyard Kipling's major works include The Jungle Book (1894), Kim (1901) and many short stories and poems. Kipling was born in India, which inspired much of his work and his innovative stories for children have become timeless classics. Kipling was one of the most popular writers in the British Empire, in both prose and verse, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries and was awarded the Nobel Prize in literature in 1907.
