Autograph note (cut slip), Foreign Office, 2 February 1827. Small rectangular slip (170 × 100 mm), manuscript in ink, the text beginning 'Foreign Office / 2nd February 1827 / Mr Canning presents his compliments to Mr Browne Bell and has the honour to-', the sentence cut off mid-line; laid paper. Unmounted but with old mounting remnants and adhesive staining to the verso; light browning, ink clear and legible; trimmed at foot and right margin with loss of concluding lines. About good. A formal diplomatic courtesy note in the hand of George Canning (1770-1827), written shortly before his brief premiership and in the final year of his life. As Foreign Secretary he habitually issued such notes to officials, publishers, and members of the political and administrative world, and the formulaic opening here is entirely characteristic. . Autograph note signed by William Wyon, 1 page, 90 × 110 mm, written in ink on a small sheet of cream paper, embossed Mint crest at upper left. Old mounting traces on verso at corners (four areas of abrasion and toning), a couple of light surface marks, but the text clean and fully legible. Very good. A short note from William Wyon, Chief Engraver at the Royal Mint from 1828 and one of the most important medallic artists of the nineteenth century. Writing from the Mint, he apologises for being "engaged at the Royal Academy every evening this month", but agrees to attend Murray's dinner party the following Wednesday "with great pleasure? if I can be with you before 9 o'clock." Quite plausibly he was writing to John Murray the publisher. Wyon's work defined the numismatic portraiture of early Victorian Britain: he engraved the celebrated "Young Head" of Queen Victoria used on British coinage for nearly fifty years, and executed major medals for the Royal Academy, the Great Exhibition, and numerous scientific and artistic institutions. Autograph material is not common, particularly with Mint association. Signed by Author(s).

Autograph musical quotation and signature on a cut slip, Dublin, 10 November 1842. Small oblong slip (approx. 100 × 65 mm), on paper, bearing in ink a short notated vocal phrase on a five-line stave, with the words 'Là ci darem la mano' beneath, the opening line of the celebrated duet from Mozart's Don Giovanni. Signed centrally by Giorgio Ronconi, with place and date below in Italian form 'Dublin li 10/11 842', i.e. 10 November 1842. Also signed at lower right by his duet partner Christiana Welles. Age-toning, and a fleck missing from left edge, otherwise in about very good condition. Ronconi was one of the foremost baritones of the mid-nineteenth century, closely associated with the role of Don Giovanni, which he sang throughout Britain and Ireland during the 1840s. The quoted phrase is the opening of the Act I duet between Don Giovanni and Zerlina, and the presence of the second signature strongly suggests that Christiana Welles was the soprano who sang the role of Zerlina with Ronconi in Dublin during this season, the slip functioning as a contemporary autograph souvenir of that performance and partnership. Light creasing from folding; minor adhesive remnants and surface disturbance to verso from former mounting; Very good. The statement reflects the WSPU's repudiation of constitutional methods in favour of direct action.
