Hardcover. Condition: Fine. 1st Edition. Book Condition, Fine: Excellent external shape. Some faint marks/scratches across the printed boards, slight curling and bumping to the corners. Cloth-bound spine almost mint. Cover artwork is excellent, black-and-white colour bright and vibrant. Page edges in excellent condition, extreme…ly well preserved for the book's age. Pages throughout are clean and tidy, colour printed engravings immaculate. Book remains tightly bound. This early edition of The Baby's Opera, published circa 1877 by Frederick Warne and Co., is a highly prized example of Victorian children's literature and illustration. Featuring the masterful collaboration between Walter Crane — one of the most influential illustrators of the period — and the renowned color printer Edmund Evans, this edition stands out for its beautifully engraved and hand-colored plates. Its distinctive decorative boards and integration of music with poetic nursery rhymes make it a landmark in the history of children's books. Surviving early copies in such complete and well-preserved condition are especially rare and coveted by collectors of illustrated books and 19th-century art. The Baby's Opera is a charming collection of traditional nursery rhymes "with new dresses," brought vividly to life through Walter Crane's imaginative illustrations and printed in exquisite colour by Edmund Evans. Edmund Evans (illustrator).
