Budap…est (deutsch historisch Ofen-Pesth) ist die Hauptstadt und zugleich größte Stadt Ungarns. Mit knapp 1,7 Millionen Einwohnern ist Budapest die neuntgrößte Stadt der Europäischen Union und die fünftgrößte Stadt Mitteleuropas (nach Berlin, Wien, Hamburg und Warschau). Die Einheitsgemeinde Budapest entstand 1873 durch die Zusammenlegung der zuvor selbstständigen Städte Buda (dt. Ofen), Óbuda (Alt-Ofen), beide westlich der Donau, und Pest östlich der Donau. Der Name Budapest selbst tauchte zuvor nicht auf, üblich im Sprachgebrauch war Pest-Buda. Das Donauufer, das Burgviertel und die Andrássy-Straße gehören heute zum UNESCO-Welterbe. Rudolf Ritter von Alt (* 28. August 1812 in Wien; gestorben 12. März 1905 ebenda) war ein österreichischer Maler und Aquarellist. 1825-1832 war Alt Schüler der Wiener Akademie, seit 1826 in der Landschaftsklasse von Josef Mössmer. Schon bald erhielt er dort einen 1. Preis und stellte 1830 erstmals dort aus. Vater und Sohn machten ausgehende Reisen durch die Länder der Monarchie und arbeiteten so eng zusammen, dass es oft nicht möglich ist, zu entscheiden, von wem ein bestimmtes Bild geschaffen wurde. Der Höhepunkt ihrer Zusammenarbeit waren die sogenannten "Guckkastenbilder" für den späteren Kaiser Ferdinand I. Alt unternahm Studienreisen durch ganz Europa, so 1863 auf die Krim, 1864 nach Deutschland und 1867 nach Italien. 1867 wurde er Mitglied der Berliner Akademie, 1879 Professor an der Wiener Akademie. Auch im höheren Alter war er an den neuesten Entwicklungen in der Kunst interessiert und war deshalb auch 1897 eines der Gründungsmitglieder der Wiener Secession, deren Ehrenpräsident er im selben Jahr wurde. Rudolf von Alt ist einer der populärsten Künstler des 19. Jahrhunderts in Wien. Seine Leistung liegt in seiner meisterhaften Beherrschung des Aquarells. Er schuf über 1000 Aquarelle, die topografisch genau und atmosphärisch stimmungsvoll das Österreich der damaligen Zeit, sowohl Landschaften als auch vor allem Architektur, festhalten. Allein 100-mal stellte er den Stephansdom in Wien dar. Bekannt wurden auch seine Atelierbilder des Malers Hans Makart. Neben seinen Aquarellen malte Alt nur verhältnismäßig wenige Ölbilder. Erst 2011 konnte ein Werkverzeichnis der rund 150 Ölgemälde erscheinen. Zu seinen Förderern gehörte der Kunstsammler Jakob Gsell. Konrad Adolf Hartleben, auch Conrad Adolph Hartleben oder Conrad Adolf Hartleben (* 26. August 1778 in Mainz; gestorben 5. In den Effekten dieser Blätter spricht der Lokalstolz mit, wozu die Fassung der Unterschrift beiträgt. Von dem Sommertheater in Ofen, dessen Inneres dargestellt wird, heißt es: `wundervolles Theater, das nur in der französischen Hauptstadt seinesgleichen hat`. Unter dem sehr lebendigem Bilde der Waiznergasse steht: `Was der Graben und Kohlmarkt für Wien`. Der Remorqueur `Herkules`, 300 Pferdekräfte, wird eigens als das größte Stromschiff des Kontinents` qualifiziert. Das Landschaftliche ist in dieser Blattfolge nachdrücklich betont und verhilft zu wahren Meisterblättern. So `Ofen und Pesth vom Schwabenberg` mit ganz reizender Fernsicht auf städtisches Miniaturgewimmel. Eine `Aussicht von der Ofner Bastei`, die ihn sehr wienerisch anheimeln möchte, ergeht sich liebevoll in der Aufreihung der Pappeln des Stadtmeierhofes und in der zarten Herausschattierung der Ofner Berge. Zur Abwechslung erfreut er sich an einer langen Barockfassade wie der des Invalidenpalais, das anno 1797 vom großen Wiener Martinelli gebaut worden ist.
