Condition: Good. 1951. First Published. 127 pages. No dust jacket. Signed by the author. Red cloth. Flatsigned by author to title page. Light thumb marking, foxing and noticeable tanning to pages. More prominent to text block edges, pastedowns and free endpapers. Light cracking to gutters and hinges but binding remains firm. Boards have minor corner bumping and edgewear with mild tanning and scuffing overall. Spine has heavier tanning with soft crushing to ends. Book has a slight forward lean.

Illustrated Boards. Condition: Good +. No Jacket. J. Ramsey Wherrett (illustrator). No publication date stated but c1949. Dedication to "Susan and Celia Winder" signed by author on front e/p. Illustrated boards have bumped and chipped corners. Cloth spine has wear to ends. Contents tight with some foxing to e/p's. Front e/p has small closed tears to top and bottom edges. Nice copy. The first publication of 10 stories told by the author in the B.B.C. Children's Hour programmes. These tales are not only true but form a large part of the author's own life story during service with the South African Mounted Police. Dedication By Author.

Hardcover. Condition: Good. Red cloth boards are Good with fading on cover and spine. Text is clean and bright in a tight and true binding. Appears to be inscribed on title page below the title by Hellman "who gives them to Sarah with great affection in August 1952." Handwriting matches examples found online. Sarah is mostly likely Sarah Cameron a woman Hellman encountered off and on and served as the subject of her book, Maybe: A Story. A rare find. Inscribed by Author(s).

Signed pen and ink drawing on Whatman Water Colour Board depicting a BBC radio studio in which 3 children and an actor are recording a piece for Children's Hour watched by their parents and in the foreground by the director or announcer. Image size 285 x 215 mm (11.5 x 8.5 inches). A charming period piece, dated on the mount as 'Circa 1935' but possibly 1940s. Small shallow crease to lower left corner of mount, otherwise very good condition, mounted ready to frame. Donald Lionel Mays (b.1900) studied under E.J. Sullivan at Goldsmith's and is well known for his illustrations for the Jennings books of Anthony Buckeridge, several books by Streatfeild and Percy F. Westerman and one by Angela Brazil.
