The author was a key instigator in the adoption of the lance by British cavalry units. De Montmorency was captured at Verdun, and imprisoned for three years, but was given the freedom to study both the French and Polish lancers, which were world-renowned shock units. This publication was a significant treatise in the transformation of the British cavalry. WorldCat locates 3 copies only, at St. Andrews, Edinburgh, and the National Library of Scotland.
