Dans le cadre d'une résidence d'artiste mise en place par Artois Comm., l'artiste contemporain Gilles Bruni a créé une installation paysagère dans le parc de la prévôté de Gorre de Beuvry. Cette installation, intitulée Le camp de l'ermitage : entre calme apparent du sous-bois et résurgence d'un passé agité, une façon de recycler l'histoire, réinvente le passé de ce site occupé et bombardé durant la guerre 14-18. L'artiste explique : «J'ai façonné une fiction autour de l'occupation du lieu en 14-18, qui servait de base arrière anglaise et abritait un hôpital.» Sa création, c'est sur le site du Camp de l'ermitage qu'il l'a installée. «Il a été choisi car j'ai retrouvé des traces de ce passé: nombreux éclats de bombes, résidus de cartouches, reliefs de trous d'obus». Des fouilles partielles et un déminage de surface ont attesté la présence de soldats de la Première Guerre mondiale. Le fantasme d'un conflit, ou tout du moins l'hypothèse d'un camp d'exercice de tirs, a guidé le travail de l'artiste. Ainsi, à l'aide d'éléments de vannerie importés, de morceaux de bois ramassés ci et là, il a façonné des casques et des bombes, a assemblé un blockhaus, a reconstitué des trous de bombes avec des miroirs, recréé des tranchées à l'aide de fascines et rondins, a donné naissance à une queue d'avion Avec ces éléments à 90% naturels, il réussit à évoquer une quasi présence humaine. «Cela fonctionne comme un théâtre, commente l'artiste. L'idéal, c'est d'être seul et de se laisser prendre au jeu.» Au premier abord, une impression de douceur, de quiétude inspirée par le décor naturel de cette clairière. Rapidement opposée à l'horreur de la guerre qui ressurgit. «C'est une façon de recycler le passé.» De se réapproprier un lieu aussi.
