Issue without a dust jacket. -- Between 1964 and 1967, the artist Erró embarked on a unique project, asking artists, musicians, poets, gallery owners, critics, and curators to spontaneously pull a face for his camera. The recordings ranged from a few seconds to two minutes, often ending only when the camera operator was overcome with laughter, causing the image to shake. In 1967, editor Denise de Casabianca skillfully assembled 173 of these recordings into a 40-minute film titled Grimace - an experimental work described as both anarchic and subjective. This book presents 133 stills taken directly from the film. It provides deeper insight into the project, offering explanations of individual shots, the film's concept, and the many notable figures who participated (among them Marcel Duchamp, Robert Filliou, Ted Joans, Taylor Mead, Claes Oldenburg, Lil Picard, Man Ray, Carolee Schneemann, Marjorie Strider, and Andy Warhol).
