Hardcover. Condition: As New. 1st Edition. 1st Printing. Signed. Unpaginated. Published in 2005. Retrospective collection of color photographs. One of the greatest photography books of our time. The first and only edition. Published in a small and limited print run as a hardcover original only. The First Edition is now scarce. A brilliant production by Jules Spinatsch and Winfried Heininger: Oversize-volume format. Black leatherette boards with titles on cover and spine and photographic reproduction pasted on the back, as issued. Photographs and text by Jules Spinatsch. Essays by Martin Jaeggi and Jamie Shea. Printed on glossy stock paper in Switzerland to the highest standards. The book ironically mimics the look and feel of an Annual Corporate Report. Without DJ, as issued. Presents Jules Spinatsch's "Temporary Discomfort". In five interrelated chapters. An anti-heroic visual approach is shown as the only possible antidote to the toxic effects of the imagery of power. "Spinatsch examines the waiting for the big event as meticulously planned down to the last detail. Whatever will happen is already inscribed in its security architecture. He creates landscapes that could serve as the antithesis to the Romantic tradition. He shows landscapes and cityscapes as they appear under the cold, strategic gaze of security planners, a terrain where every movement must be controlled and contained. Spinatsch mimics the gaze of power, power as a gaze that sees the world only as a security hazard to be contained. At the heart of the security architecture that Spinatsch shows us, we find a hermetically sealed vacuum in which politicians and managers meet to organize world trade in the name of liberal democracy while they smile at TV cameras, remote and untouchable. Spinatsch does not want to be a hero. He is a spy behind enemy lines. Only such a clever anti-strategist can show the cold and imperious glance of power so clearly and hauntingly" (Martin Jaeggi). In the Age of CNN and Fox News, power means having absolute control over the image that people see of power. By taking photographs of the preparations, security measures, and other precautions needed to achieve this goal (while no one else, including all other photographers, was looking or paying attention), Spinatsch exposes the heroic iconography of power as a pompous lie. An absolute "must-have" title for Jules Spinatsch collectors. This copy is very prominently and beautifully signed in black ink-pen by Jules Spinatsch. It is signed directly on the page itself, not on a tipped-in page. This title is a great photography book. This is one of few such signed copies of the First Hardcover Edition/First Printing still available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright, a pristine beauty. A rare signed copy thus. Jules Spinatsch's "Temporary Discomfort" was selected as one of the greatest photography books in "The Photobook". One of the most brilliant photographers of our time. A fine copy. ISBN 3037780479. Signed by Author.

no binding. Condition: very good. This 1877 etching titled View of the Port of Genoa depicts a bustling maritime scene along the waterfront of the historic Italian city. The composition presents a vivid and detailed portrayal of Genoa's port, featuring a cluster of figures engaged in the loading or unloading of goods from moored sailboats in the foreground. To the left, a tall, weathered stone tower and adjacent buildings rise against a dramatic, cloud-filled sky, evoking the ancient architecture of the Ligurian coastline. A horse-drawn cart and working men emphasize the commercial vigor of the port. In the middle ground, boats with high masts and draped sails enhance the sense of maritime activity, while the background reveals a dense arrangement of Genoese buildings, indicating the city's proximity to the sea. The print is signed at the lower left by the artist. The etching exemplifies the detailed linework and atmospheric perspective characteristic of late Romantic or early Realist topographical prints. The work offers a valuable visual record of Genoa's urban and mercantile identity during the period, likely intended for collectors and viewers with an appreciation for Italian coastal cities and their architectural heritage. Approximate Image Size: 6 1/4 x 4 inches Approximate Overall Size: 6 1/2 x 9 inches CONDITION: Suitable Browning from age. Very Good Condition. Image is clean, clear, sharp with beautiful detail and in VERY GOOD CONDITION. Provenance: "Italy from the Alps to Mount Etna"; Translated by Frances Eleanor Trollope and Edited by Thomas Adolphus Trollope; Published by Chapman and Hall, HAS TEXT ON FRONT AND REVERSE side . This would make a great picture set in a very nice frame. An art supply store can provide you with a selection of frames for old art treasures. This is a GENUINE ANTIQUE PRINT. It is NOT a modern reproduction, ie. a laser scan, photocopy etc. It is the original from the antique publication. This print was published on the date mentioned, or circa of the date mentioned at the top of the page. The term "print" is referred to an image on a piece of paper. The print I have for sale, like many antique prints that you see online, originate from an antique book or atlas publication. The publication may not always be known. If you have any questions, emails are welcome.

Add to basketOWEN, Sgt Hugh W. Royal Air Force Observer's and Air Gunner's Flying Log Book. Royal Air Force Form 1767, 1942. Original Second World War RAF flying log book of Sgt Hugh W. Owen, Flight Engineer with 76 Squadron, recording Halifax training, combat operations, the Genoa raid on which he was shot down, and later preserved in the collection of Air Chief Marshal Lord Portal. Original RAF blue cloth log book, upper cover titled "Royal Air Force Observer's and Air Gunner's Flying Log Book", with "Owen H." to the cover and "Red Owen" boldly written along the fore-edge. Certificate page completed for 572232 Sgt Owen H., qualified as Flight Engineer, Lancaster I from 27 June 1942 at No. 4 School of Technical Training, St Athan, and then as Flight Engineer, Halifax I and II from 11 July 1942 with 76 Squadron, Middleton St George. An exceptionally evocative Bomber Command log book. The early entries record Halifax conversion and operational preparation: local flying, cross-country exercises, air-to-sea firing, gunnery, fighter co-operation, three-engine flying, searchlight co-operation and night tests. Several entries have striking immediacy, including "Climb to 12,500 - Evasive action," "Brakes u/s," and a red-ink note recording an oil leak and "two con-rods thro crankcase." The contrast between blue and black routine entries and the red operational annotations gives the volume a strong visual drama. The log culminates in combat flying with 76 Squadron. On 23 October 1942 Owen records his first operation to Genoa: "1st Op. Genoa. 1 x 1000, 6 cans, 2 bundles," with 9 hours 30 minutes of night operational flying. The final operational note, on 7 November 1942, is starkly entered in red: "Operation Genoa - Missing." This entry refers to Halifax II DT515 of 76 Squadron, lost on the Genoa raid of 7 November 1942. Owen, the flight engineer, baled out over occupied France after the aircraft developed engine trouble and crashed near Sexfontaines / Juzennecourt, Haute-Marne. He was captured two days later and became a prisoner of war, was later held at Stalag Luft III, the Luftwaffe POW camp later famous as the site of the Great Escape. The log is therefore not merely a flying record, but the direct manuscript witness of a Bomber Command airman's passage from training to operations, loss, capture and captivity. Provenance: from the collection of Air Chief Marshal Lord Portal, Chief of the Air Staff during the Second World War and the central RAF figure of Britain's strategic air war. The association is particularly powerful: a front-line Halifax crewman's operational log preserved in the library of the man responsible for the air campaign at the highest level.

Kein Einband. Condition: Wie neu. Dust Jacket Condition: Wie neu. Richard Paul Lohse - Signed Exhibition Poster - 1971 - Galleria La Polena, Genoa ** Hand signed by Richard Paul Lohse, lower right. Sheet size : 70,0 x 49,8 cm ** Precise geometry, bold colors, and a perfect balance of form this exhibition poster represents the visionary work of Richard Paul Lohse, a pioneer of constructive and systematic art. Created for his solo exhibition at Galleria La Polena in Genoa, Italy, which ran from October 9 to November 4, 1971, the poster is a striking example of his commitment to order, structure, and visual harmony. * Lohse was a master of geometric abstraction, and this composition reflects his signature approach: a grid-based system of interlocking colors, where each hue interacts dynamically with the others. The use of green, yellow, pink, and deep blue in carefully structured blocks creates a sense of both rhythm and mathematical precision. His work embodies the ideals of Swiss Concrete Art, a movement that sought to eliminate personal expression in favor of universal, objective compositions. * Richard Paul Lohse (1902-1988) was a Swiss artist and graphic designer, known for his modular color systems and rationalist compositions. He played a key role in the development of Concrete Art, alongside artists like Max Bill and Theo van Doesburg. His work is deeply rooted in Bauhaus principles, emphasizing clarity, repetition, and balance. Lohse s influence extends beyond fine art into graphic design and visual communication, making him one of the most important figures in 20th-century modernism. * This original exhibition poster is a rare and collectible piece. ** *** SHIPPING: Worldwide shipping available *** CONDITION: in very good condition ***.
