Condition: Good. 1953. First Edition. 224 pages. Black cloth with silver lettering to spine. Contains black and white plates. Folded map at the back. Pages are slightly tanned with minor foxing throughout. Heavier foxing to text-block edges. Pen inscription and small sticker to pastedowns. Plates are bright and clear, with some light tanning and foxing to edges. Binding remains firm. Boards have light shelf-wear with corner bumping. Small scratches and dents to boards. Heavy sunning to spine with notable crushing to spine ends. Silver lettering is bright and clear.

Soft cover. Condition: VG+. Photos (illustrator). 1st Edition. Short repaired marginal tear to DW.

Hardcover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. First Edition. Signed by the previous owner on the front free end paper page. There is gilt on the spine of the book. Complete with all plates and folded map at the back of the book. Publication of 224 pages. The boards are a little shelf rubbed and a touch edge worn, they remain in good condition. A first edition, first printing published by Eyre & Spottiswoode in 1953. Signed with dedication by the author on the front free end paper. Includes the literary agents compliment slip which is also signed by the author. A near fine copy with only slight wear to the corners and head/base of the spine. Some browning to the text block. In a like unclipped wrapper with slight loss to the head and base of the spine. Some wear to the edges and corners. This work is acknowledged by scholars as culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.

Loosely inserted is a long typed letter to a close friend and fellow astronomer - on two sides - SIGNED by Patrick Moore telling about some of the recent observations he has made of the moon's surface. The letter has his address in East Grinstead and is dated "1945 April 28." The recipient, Mr. Tompkins, has written on the top of the half-title, "A gift from my dear friend, Patrick Moore." Colour map of moon to endpapers. Illustrated with photographs and drawings. A clean and sound copy in a slightly worn wrapper with chips and tears to extremities.
