Ces 53 fascicules sont illustrés de 64 planches, certaines dépliantes. Franz-Ernest Bruckmann (1697-1753) publia séparément 100 lettres de 1728 à 1741, sur ses voyages en Allemagne et en Hongrie, où il rend compte des curiosités de la nature qu'il a pu observer. Il s'intéresse apparemment à tout : les cabinets de curiosités, la minéralogie, les fossiles, la botanique, les monstruosités humaines ou animales, les reliques du passé. On y voit aussi une illustration du Sabbat des sorcières. De manière évidente, on ne trouve jamais cette série de lettres complète. De plus, il publia une autre "centurie" en 1749 et une autre, éditée à titre posthume en 1756. Aucune bibliothèque au monde ne possède l'intégralité les "lettres" de cet auteur prolifique, qui était avant tout un esprit curieux. Divers suppléments ont été reliés à la fin. Minor browning and minor soiling, with creases to corners. Text is in Latin, with some phrases in German. A short report on the main libraries in Vienna, including that of the Count of Windhagen, which also contained two human fetuses preserved in alcohol. One of these, Siamese twins, is described by the author with some detail and shown on the accompanying plate. Brückmann (1697-1753), a member of the Academia Caesarea Naturae Curiosorum, was a prolific author on mining, mineralogy, and related natural history subjects. He practiced medicine at Helmstädt and Braunschweig and, after receiving a considerable inheritance, traveled widely and formed an important mineral collection. He published three separate Centuria of letters (I: 1728-41, with each "Epistola" being published separately; II: 1749; and III: 1756). This rare work WorldCat locates no copy in the U.S. describes the famous "Heimkehle" gypsum cave near Ellrich in the southern Harz mountains.
