Marbled endpapers. = Important zoogeographical, ecological, malacological, and entomological contributions based on the gatherings of the French zoologist Henri Gadeau de Kerville, (1858-1940), who wrote the introduction and a narrative of the expedition, and the general list of species with notes on fish, mammals, etc. Also included are contributions by Attems (Myriapoda, 26 pp.), Louis Germain (Mollusca, 165 pp.), Bolivar (the turtle, Testudo ibera, 8 pp.) and Blanchard (Hiridunae, 6 pp.). The first plate is a map of the region, the next 18 show landscapes and people. Molluscs are on plates 22-30. Inscribed and signed on the second blank recto, by the author "À mon très-distingué collègue . F. X. Gillot .". Below, a stamp of the American malacologist Richard Irwin Johnson (1925-2020). François Xavier Gillot 91842-1910) was a French medical doctor and mycologist. A very good, and unique copy. Well-bound copies, such as this one, are very uncommon.…

First edition, presentation copy, with a contemporary ink inscription signed "d[er] Verf[asser]" ("from the author") to the head of the front wrapper. This lecture was delivered by the Hungarian-German physicist (1862-1947) on his receipt of the 1905 Nobel Prize in Physics for work on cathode rays, work later used by Einstein to provide his theoretical explanation of the photoelectric effect. Lenard never forgave Einstein for superseding his work on the photoelectric effect, and after being made Chief of Aryan Physics under the Nazis, he systematically denounced Einsteinian physics as "Jewish science". Eine originelle Einladung zu einem studentenlichen Kunstball in Paris, organisiert von Henri Guillaume für Schüler der Ecole nationale superieure des Beaux-Arts. Als private Veranstaltung betrachtet, nahmen durchschnittlich viertausend Gäste an jeder Veranstaltung teil; die Mehrheit waren Studenten, die entweder Architektur, Malerei, Skulptur oder Gravur studierten, und der Rest waren Pariser Prominente wie Paul Poiret, ein französischer Couture-Designer. Der Bal des Quat'z'Arts, der jedes Jahr von 1892 bis 1966 stattfand, war ein rauhes, frivoles Fest für alle - so sehr freizügig, dass der Veranstalter wiederholt von der Stadt Paris wegen illegalen Verhaltens verklagt wurde. Considered a private event, an average of four thousand guests attended each event; the majority were students who studied either architecture, painting, sculpture or engraving, and the rest were Parisian VIPs such as Paul Poiret, a French couture designer. The Bal de Quat'z'Arts, which took place every year from 1892 to 1966, was a rough, frivolous feast for all - so generous that the organizer was repeatedly sued by the city of Paris for illegal conduct.…
