Ao questionar o paradigma epistemolà gico modernizante e funcional que encobriu e encobre os "outros" e nega identidades culturais preexistentes e existentes, convida seus futuros leitores e leitoras a terem presentes outras là gicas, que sejam capazes de assumir pensares, fazeres e saberes subalternos, perifà ricos colados à vida. A percepção da subjetividade das mulheres do Arraial, por parte da autora, trouxe consigo a constatação da ausência de lugar das mulheres nos trabalhos e discursos hegemà nicos sobre Belo Monte de Antonio Conselheiro. DaÃ, a necessidade de superar uma leitura linear da histà ria de Belo Monte, leitura pautada pelo predomÃnio da mentalidade colonialista e eurocêntrica. As narrativas de perfil colonial estabelecem binarismo, cujo resultado à a invisibilização historiográfica, no caso das mulheres do Arraial. A autora elege algumas questões que gradualmente responde ao longo do livro, como: onde estão as mulheres na histà ria de Belo Monte? Quais são suas histà rias, seus feitos, seus nomes? Como Antonio Conselheiro se relaciona com elas e ainda como a religiosidade se configura a partir do contexto do Arraial? As mulheres do Belo Monte - benzedeiras, parteiras, rezadeiras entre outras transcendem o espaço da casa, estão profundamente inseridas na vida da comunidade em todas as suas dimensões.
