First edition, first impression. Inscribed by the artist on the second leaf, "Best wishes! Nino Caffè, Jan. 1966". An earlier version of Graham Greene's appreciation of Italian painter Nino Caffè, 'the painter of young priests', had previously appeared in the catalogue for Caffè's exhibition at the Knoedler Gallery in New York in 1953. Text in English, Italian and French. An uncommon Graham Greene title. Miller 5 (for the 1953 exhibition catalogue). Oblong quarto. 14 tipped in colour plates and black and white illustrations in the text. Original red satin boards, titles to spine and front board gilt, decoration to front board gilt, bevelled edges. Small white stain to tail of spine and front board, cloth with a few tiny chips, mainly affecting rear board, light spotting to endpapers, else contents bright. An excellent copy.
