Memoir of the character actor who blossomed into a full-fledged star later in his career. Condition: Good. Original pastel drawing. 32 x 24 cm. Signed and dedicated to Mme. Félicien Menu de Ménil, the wife of the composer.Autoportrait de J.E. Van Driesten (fusain et sanguine), signé et dédicacé à Mme de Ménil .Joseph-Emmanuel Van Driesten (1853-1923) In 1886, he won a silver medal in Vienna for a series of paintings of thirty-two genealogical trees outlining the ancestry of Emperor Franz Joseph I of Austria. In 1886, Van Driesten relocated to Paris, taking up residence at 19 Rue du Poncelet. There, he offered instructional courses for ladies in both illumination (heraldic illustration, calligraphy, and the creation of decorative monograms and initials) and miniature portraiture. (It would seem that miniature portraiture was of secondary interest to him, likely something he pursued to satisfy the growing demand for high quality color portraits in Paris in the last years of the nineteenth century.) He also published two monthly magazines of art instruction: L'Enlumineu (The Illuminator), published from 1889 to 1892, and Le Coloriste Enlumineur (The Colorist Illuminator), published from 1893 to 1898. He is said to have participated regularly exhibitions of the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts (National Society of Fine Arts), where he exhibited both miniature portraits and heraldic works, received a total of 18 gold and silver medals. His period of flourish as a miniature portrait painter were from 1886-1998. He was active as a heraldist and heraldic illuminator for a much longer period, from 1870 until his death in 1923. Listesd by Benezit, Blättel (pages 912, 913), and Lemoine-Bouchard (page 513).Félicien Menu de MÉNIL (1860-1930) l'auteur de l'hymne de l'esperanto (La Espero, sur des paroles de L.L. Zamenhof). Condition: Very good. Single sheet, measuring just shy of 8" x 11". Drawing, mostly in black felt-tip pen, with some elements in a thinner gel or ballpoint pen. The image depicts Corso, smoking acigarette and sitting pensively at a table with a book entitled "POETRY" in front of him on the destk. A formless woman with a lyre appears in the background. Corso has titled, dated, and signed the drawing at the bottom. Thin toning to the top edge, more notably on the verso, and a few tiny ink blots on the edge of the verso, possibly original to the drawing (?). Altogether in very good condition. An amusing self-portrait. On the "page" of the "poetry" book there is a group of symbols, which appear to be in a kind of unified script which is not immediately evident to us, although they may be entirely fabricated.

Kein Einband. Condition: Sehr gut. This rare Self-Portrait by Andy Warhol was published in 1978 on the occasion of the opening of his major European exhibition at the Kunsthaus Zürich in Switzerland. *** The work is hand-signed by Warhol in black felt pen on the right edge *** *** Very Rare : From an edition of approximately 300 but with an unknown number signed. *** Please Note : This is the original Zürich Edition from 1978. Not the later edition - published after his death. *** No printed text bar *** Work is in very good condition : very small pinholes from earlier use barely visible. *** Sheet Size 106 x 75.6 cm *** Literature: Feldman & Schellmann, Andy Warhol. Prints, 2003, Nr. II.156A *** In this striking screenprint, Andy Warhol turns his gaze inward, offering one of his most personal self-portrayals. The composition captures the artist?s quiet, introspective nature, presenting him not as the confident icon of Pop Art but as a reserved and contemplative observer. Warhol?s face, rendered in a simplified sketch, is energized by vivid blocks of fuchsia and pink that animate the surface and emphasize the intensity of his expression. These bold color fields contrast with the delicate line work, creating both tension and harmony within the portrait. *** By revealing the human side of the artist, the work bridges the distance between Warhol and his audience, allowing collectors and viewers alike to connect with the enigmatic figure who transformed the language of contemporary art. *** Andy Warhol published his Self-Portrait II 156A on the occasion of the opening of two European exhibitions featuring his work : The first at the Kunsthaus Zürich in Switzerland from May 26 - July 30, 1978. The second was held at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, Humlebĉk in Denmark from October 6 November 26, 1978. *** Andy Warhol (1928 - 1987) was a central figure of the Pop Art movement, celebrated worldwide for his groundbreaking depictions of consumer goods and celebrity icons. His multidisciplinary practice spanning painting, silkscreen printing, film, photography, and publishing redefined the boundaries between commercial and fine art. *** Warhols legendary New York studio, The Factory, became a cultural hub where artists, musicians, and intellectuals gathered. His enduring fascination with fame, media, and repetition made him one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. Today, Warhol s works are held in major museum collections including MoMA, Tate, and Centre Pompidou, continuing to shape our understanding of image culture and the role of the artist in the media age. *** Finance lease and rental options are available in Switzerland, offering collectors and institutions aflexible and accessible opportunityto enjoy this masterpiece with tailored financial solutions *** Handmade framingoptions are available to enhance the artwork s presentation and preservation, ensuring it remains a timeless showpiece in any collection *** WORLDWIDE deliveryis also offered, providing a seamless acquisition process for international buyers. *** For further details regardingpricing, authentication, handmade framing, and global delivery options, pleasecontact us today. Original. A collection of original artworks and works-in-progress by "travelling artist" and photographer James Collins (1939-2021). Four items including (1) a 30 x 21cm colour pastel artwork 'Self Portrait as Light Bulb', signed; (2) a 36 x 31cm colour painted canvas self-portrait, undated; a 58 x 40cm comb-bound landscape sketchbook dated January 1969, 78 leaves of colour sketches, recto only. A workbook for colour band artworks containing drawings and colour diagrams in advance of paintings, maquettes, etc., with extensive annotations and notes. The final three pages somewhat torn, with some loss (likely amendments by the artist). Signed on the cover; a 61 x 46cm landscape sketchbook, some sketches dated (c.1981), 5 leaves of conceptual sketches with figurative aspects - images of women sketched in biro and colour felt pen, with various statements of intent including a quote from John Osbourne. Sketchbook originally had 100 sheets, but the remainder here are revealing of the artist's practice. Both sketchbooks show signs of working use. A curious and compelling archive.

Covarrubias draws a pencil sketch of his face on a round doily. He signs the sketch in printed capital letters, "COVARRUBIAS." The sketch is framed in a rough hewn folk art like painted wooden oval frame and laid onto a gold and green painted wooden background. The sketch is rendered in lighter pencil than the darker signature. The actual drawing is sharper than the photograph shown here. Covarrubias moved to New York on a grant from the Mexican Government in 1924. He is renown for his drawings that captured the cultural activity of the Harlem Renaissance in his book, "Negro Drawings." (1927). He was a regular illustrator on the covers for "Vanity Fair," "Vogue," and "The New Yorker," designed costumes for Josephine Baker, and generally popularized the art and cultures of the Americas and of Bali. He was interested in the ethnology of Mexican culture and posited that Mayan culture was preceded by Olmec culture, discounted at first but now known to be accurate. It is thought that his stylistic concerns drew him to study Mexican and also Balinese ethnography. Although still regarded as a caricaturist and illustrator since the majority of his output falls into these categories, Covarrubias is being reconsidered as a multidimensional Modernist working in many forms. Signed.
