Se diferencian en que el primero, en la portada del Antiguo Testamento hebreo lleva, sobre la marca del impresor, la nota ?Ad Regij Sacri operis commoditatem & apparatum?, ausente en los ejemplares detinados a su venta separada, que es el caso de este que ofrecemos. Además, aunque Arias Montano concibió que en el segundo tomo del aparato crítico, séptimo de la Biblia, se incluyese la parte titulada Communes et familiares hebraicæ linguæ idiotismi, tal como lo indica en el texto Ordo librorum de los prolegómenos del tomo primero, lo cierto es que, a la hora de la verdad, esa parte se suministró en el volumen octavo. Baldomero Macías Rosendo señala por un lado que ?el volumen séptimo de la Políglota de Amberes, segundo del Apparatus, es el más interesante desde el punto de vista de la filología bíblica, pues recoge las novedades introducidas respecto al texto de Alcalá tanto en el Antiguo como en el Nuevo Testamento, así como las traducciones latinas interlineales de los textos hebreo y griego del Antiguo y Nuevo Testamento, respectivamente?(1). Y, por otro lado, que .la gran aceptación que tuvo la Biblia Regia, y en particular su Aparato sagrado, en el mundo protestante, precisamente por haber sido cuestionado por la Inquisición de Roma, y más tarde por la española. La inclusión de las obras de Montano en el Índice Expurgatorio Romano de 1607 y la negativa de muchos católicos a aceptar su Biblia fue causa de un enorme éxito en los países protestantes. Pero, sin lugar a dudas, el volumen que gozó de mayor difusión fue el séptimo, segundo del Aparato, con la versión interlineal de Arias Mon.

First edition of this rare treatise…on astronomy and navigation. The plates depict, among other things, celestial spheres, the solar system according to the leading astronomers, wind roses, and compasses. "Giovanni Pagnini was born in Lucca, Italy but considered himself as a naturalized Maltese. He taught navigation at the Order's nautical school established in Malta in the mid-18th Century. Pagnini describes himself as professor of Hydrography in Malta at the service of the Order of St John. His work is divided into two parts: one on astronomy for use in navigation and the other on the practice of piloting and navigation. This book was probably compiled from the notes Pagnini used for teaching navigation. In this book Pagnini describes four models of the universe: Ptolemy's geocentric model; Copernicus? heliocentric model; Tycho Brahe's model with the stationary Earth at the centre, the Moon and the Sun orbiting the Earth, while the planets orbit the Sun; and what he calls a Semi-Copernican model which is similar to the Tychonian model but with the Earth rotating on its axis every 24 hours. He then explains why he prefers the Semi-Copernican model. Pagnini then discusses briefly the orbit of the Sun, the Moon, the planets and their moons, the constellations, and stars down to magnitude 6 and nebulous stars. Pagnini then explains the use of the compass and its correction to find true North, clocks and other instruments needed to determine the latitude and longitude of places during navigation. The contents show the good standard of the astronomy taught to students of navigation in mid-18th Century Malta". First edition of 1528, The Pagnini Bible was the first to divide the biblical text into numbered verses and one of the first revisions of the Latin Vulgate using the original languages. Sante Pagnini was an Italian monk and biblical scholar…who eventually settled in Lyon, France. Like other scholars at this time, he became interested in studying the Bible in its original Greek and Hebrew sources. He completed his Latin translation in 1528, dividing his Bible into numbered verses for easier reference. His divisions, however, are different from the system used today, which was developed by Robert Estienne in 1551. Pagnini?s translation of the Old Testament was widely known for its literal reading of the Hebrew and remained popular until the end of the 1500s. Pagnino was born 1470 at Lucca, in Tuscany, central Italy. At sixteen he took the religious habit at San Domenico in Fiesole, where he studied under the direction of Savonarola and other eminent professors.[1] In acquiring the Oriental languages, then cultivated at Florence, he displayed unwonted quicksightedness, ease and penetration. His genius, industry and erudition won him influential friends, among them the Cardinals de'Medici, subsequently popes Leo X and Clement VII. As a sacred orator his zeal and eloquence kept abreast with his erudition and were as fruitful. Summoned to Rome by Leo X, he taught at the recently-opened free school for Oriental languages until his patron's death (1521). He then spent three years at Avignon and the last seven years of his life at Lyon. Here he was instrumental in establishing a hospital for the plague-stricken, and by his zeal and eloquence, diverted an irruption of Waldensianism and Lutheranism from the city, receiving in acknowledgement the much coveted rights and privileges of citizenship. Here he also was in contact with the polymath and Hebraist Michael Servetus, whom he gave his notes to, and designated him as his heir to the scholarly study of the bible after he would have died.
