Published in 1984, the book looks at the artists (Grandmaster Flash, Run-D.M.C. and many others who achieved less lasting fame) who paved the way for the huge rap and hip-hop performers who followed. This is a scarce and essential book for anyone interested in the early days on this now universal urban musical style. The binding is square and tight. The pages are unmarked. There is minor wear to the extremities and spine ends. Minor reading creases to front cover. Dozens of great candid and performance photos of rappers by Patricia Bates. A remarkable document.
