Haase. - Nombre del autor subrayado en la página del título, cubierta ligeramente rozada, en la 2. página mancha de color fuera del texto, por lo demás muy bueno y limpio. - Del texto: Cultura literaria grecolatina, derecho romano, mitologia clàsica, restos escultóricos de la antigiiedad, constituyeron durante siglos un marco vital que servia para confrontar la propia realidad cotidiana pero que no llegaba a imponer pautas ineludibles y que, de hecho, permitió rebeldias estéticas de perfiles muy acusados. Pero a finales del siglo XVIII se produce un fenòmeno curioso y es que simultàneamente con la reacción contra el derecho romano registrada en las universidades y en la actividad forense, se afianza en Occidente el modelo de una Roma que desde el fondo de los siglos vuelve a ejercer una suerte de imperio universal sobre Ias modas literarias, el gusto artístico y las doctrinas jurídico-políticas. Paradójicamente el debili-tamiento del respeto con el que había sido mirado el derecho romano no impide que el ejemplo de Roma pase a tener una vigência superior a la de épocas pasadas. Daily Mail 22 Feb 1926: "From our own correspondent /Buenos Aires, Friday/ The Brazilian widow of the late Mr. Marcus Woodbine Parish, who was murdered in Misiones Territory, Argentina, last May, attempted suicide by taking corrosive sublimate yesterday./ The woman was awaiting trial on a charge of instigating her lover to commit the crime. The prison doctor saved her life with difficulty./Mr. Parish, who was the grandson of Sir Woodbine Parish, Minister at Buenos Aires 100 years ago and signatory of the first treaty between Great Britain and Argentina, was shot dead from a wood while motoring to his estate". Full leather binding, worn marked and unevenly faded, lacking the label to the spine, signed by the author tot the title page, complete with the folding 'Sketch shewing the Relative Situations of the Lodes of San Lorenzo, San Pedro, Ballejos and San Nicolasetc.', misfolded but intact. Captain Francis Bond Head (1793-1875) was an officer in the British Army from 1811 to 1825. He was at Waterloo and after his army careeer tried setting up a mining company in Argentina which, as this book tells, failed. From 1835 to 1837 he was Lieutenant Governor of Upper Canada. He subsequently wrote a number of books on travel and travellers. Size: 7.5 x 4.75 Inches. Pagination: vii, [i], folding sketch map, 228pp. Provenance: inscriptions by the Author to the Earl of Hardwicke to the title page. Approximately 7 ¾ inches tall (20cm).
