Hinterer fester Vorsatz am seitlichen Rand 2 cm eingerissen (wohl Herstellungs-/Bindefehler), sonst sehr gutes Exemplar. Erste öffentliche Ausgabe, zuvor…1926 im Selbstverlag des Verfassers erschienen. Nicht bei Heidtmann. Scheurmann (1876-1957) war Maler und Schriftsteller und bewegte sich in Lebensreformerkreisen. Ab 1903 lebte er am Bodensee, wo er u.a. mit dem damals ebenfalls dort lebenden Hermann Hesse zusammentraf. 1914 reiste er auf Verlegeranregung und mit Vorschuss für ein Südsee-Buch nach Samoa, damals noch deutsche Kolonie. Dort wurde er vom Ersten Weltkrieg und der Übernahme der Kolonie durch neuseeländische Truppen überrascht. 1915 durfte er in die USA ausreisen, wo er aber 1916 als feindlicher Ausländer interniert wurde. Kurz vor Kriegsende konnte er jedoch nach Deutschland zurückkehren. 1919 übernahm er für einige Zeit die Gebäude des gescheiterten Sanatoriums auf dem Monte Verità, die er als Hotel betrieb. Das einzig erfolgreiche seiner Bücher war und ist auch heute noch "Der Papalagi. Die Reden des Südseehäuptlings Tuiavii", das sein Unbehagen mit der westlichen Kultur seiner Zeit zum Ausdruck bringt und in seinen fiktiven Reden weniger Gedanken eines Südseemenschen wiedergibt, als Ideen der Lebensreformer. Das Buch wurde zum Kultbuch der Hippies und der grün-alternativen Bewegung, wobei aber schlicht übersehen wurde, daß Scheurmann sich nach 1933 als strammer Nazi gebärdete und seit 1937 Parteimitglied war. Er war Volkstumswart, Blockwart und Leiter einer Ortsgruppe des Vereins der Auslandsdeutschen und fabrizierte als Maler auch Führerportraits! Sprache: de.
